PARTY LOOKS

COCKTAIL HOUR

Add subtle glamour after dark with shimmering metallics and sophisticated colour.

Whether you're going for festive drinks or a full-on New Year's Eve celebration, these simple ideas are an easy way to elevate your look.

SOFT METALS

Create evening elegance with 2017's diffused eye make-up, a subtle new take on the smoky eye that uses a blend of warm metallics.

Start with eye primer to keep shadow in place. Using a palette of warm browns and metallics, apply a wash of nude shadow all over the lid, then add a darker metallic in the socket, smudged into the lash line and winged out to the sides. Blend well. Line the waterline with kohl and apply mascara. Finish with a nude lip liner and lipstick.

WINGED COLOUR

Sophisticated shades of eyeliner, such a teal and burgandy, add a modern twist. Team with a nude lip to keep the focus on the eyes.

Dust lids with a neutral shadow, then paint liner along the lash line. At the outer corner, angle the line up towards the end of the brow until it’s the desired length. Neaten any errors with a cotton bud dipped in cleansing water. Apply mascara. Add blush to the apples of cheeks and bronzer on cheekbones. Finish with a moisturising lipstick.

FROZEN PASTELS

Washes of pale yellow, frosty pink and icy blue made an appearance on the autumn/winter catwalks. Here, a gold-infused pink is used all over the lid for a softly pretty festive look.

Start with a brightening base to give your skin a glow, then apply pastel shadow to the eyelids to just above the crease, into the inner corner and out to the sides of the eye. Brush a single coat of mascara on to lashes for subtle defi nition, and groom brows. Apply lipstick and blot it well before adding a lighter shade of gloss.

THE CHIC CHIGNON

A neat ponytail twisted into a chignon and pinned at the nape of the neck is a party-perfect hair trick.

Add smoothing cream to damp hair and blow dry. Comb through a little gel, then tie hair into a low ponytail. Twist it down its entire length and then coil it around the base. Tuck the ends under neatly and fix in place with bobby pins. For a pro finish, use a small brush to groom flyaways, hairs on the neck and along the hairline.
